The further these Nuggets march into the playoffs, the more NBA history they’re going to re-write.
With a win over the Los Angeles Clippers in Game 7, they’ll become the first team in league history to advance after multiple 3-1 deficits in the same postseason. Bubble or no bubble, that’s an accomplishment that gets stored for the ages.
But there’s a separate record the Nuggets are eyeing – and one they might not even be aware of.
The Nuggets have already secured five wins facing elimination so far this postseason, which is tied for the second-most all-time in NBA history, according to ESPN Stats and Info. Etch these cardiac Nuggets alongside the 1997 Miami Heat (5-1 in elimination games), the 1995 Houston Rockets (5-0) and the 1993 Phoenix Suns (5-1).

Want to guess which team holds the all-time record for most wins when facing elimination?
That’d be the 1994 Denver Nuggets, at 6-1. Those Nuggets, the No. 8 seed featuring Dikembe Mutombo, LaPhonso Ellis and Robert Pack, stunned the top-seeded Seattle Supersonics in five games after losing the first two in their best-of-five series. After springing the upset, the Nuggets faced the Jazz in the conference semifinals only to fall down 3-0. From there, they ripped off three consecutive wins again to force a winner-take-all Game 7 that they ultimately lost.
Outside of that iconic run, the Nuggets as a franchise haven’t had many legendary moments. Their current run, dripping with drama and almost unparalleled in its excitement, is as good as it gets, Nuggets coach Michael Malone said it on Monday.
Their resiliency and resolve is changing the perception of the Nuggets as a franchise. Whatever happens in Game 7 and over the next few weeks inside the “bubble,” Denver is no longer an afterthought. This year’s playoff run should springboard them for years to come.
