CU Buffs-Arizona State volleyball activity canceled due to coronavirus

The Arizona State at Colorado football game scheduled for Saturday has been canceled after issues with COVID-19 affected the Sun Devils’ program.

The game was canceled “due to Arizona State not having the minimum number of scholarship players available for the game as a result of a number of positive football student-athlete COVID-19 cases and resulting isolation of additional football student-athletes under contact tracing protocols,” the Pac-12 announced Sunday.

CU athletic director Rick George said he is working with the conference to find a replacement for ASU.

“We will look at any and all options about us being able to play this weekend,” George said in a statement. “It’s too early right now to gauge everything, the conference did pair UCLA and Cal today on very short notice, so we’ll have to see what transpires day-to-day around the league.”

Another option could see games that were canceled due to COVID-19 be made up on Dec. 19, as long as the teams aren’t in the Pac-12 championship game, according to a statement from CU.

This will be the first CU regular season game canceled since its Sept. 14, 2013 matchup against Fresno State due to flooding.

Currently, CU (2-0) will have its next scheduled game on Nov. 28 against Southern California (2-0).
