Past CU Buffs WR KD Nixon heading to USC

Former Colorado receiver KD Nixon has found a new home – and he will get a chance to beat the Buffaloes next fall.

On Friday afternoon, Nixon announced that he has committed to Southern California as a graduate transfer.

Nixon entered his name in the NCAA transfer portal earlier this month after four seasons with the Buffaloes.

The 5-foot-8, 190-pound Nixon ranks 19th in CU history in career catches (99) and receiving yards (1,221), while adding seven touchdowns. He also had five catches for 39 yards in the Valero Alamo Bowl last month, numbers that CU doesn’t count in its career totals.

In addition to receiving, Nixon added 758 yards on kickoff returns during his career and scored one rushing touchdown.

Nixon, from DeSoto (Texas) High School, declared for the NFL Draft last winter, but quickly changed his mind and hoped for a bigger role and more production as a senior with the Buffs. The COVID-19 pandemic and a hamstring injury limited him to just four games this past season, however.

Including the Alamo Bowl, Nixon caught 15 passes for 132 yards and no touchdowns this season. He also had a 5-yard run in the bowl game.

One of six CU players to put their name in the transfer portal this winter, Nixon is the third to find a new home. Quarterback Tyler Lytle is transferring to Massachusetts and defensive lineman Jason Harris to Arizona.

Running back Jaren Mangham, linebacker Akil Jones and safety Derrion Rakestraw also have their names in the portal, as does safety Will Anglen, who left the Buffs during last season.
